Leonardo Da Vinci's Water Inentions

A Man of "Unquenchable Curiosity"

Leonardo DaVinci

Da Vinci was an Italian, renaissance man who wondered about the world and was curious how things worked. He eventually became an inventor that was able to change the world. He created many inventions and was able to succeed and achieve his goals. An invention is a creation that is made from thoughts and ideas. An invention can change the world and can change every day life. Da Vinci was one of the smartest inventors that ever lived. Nature had inspired him to make all his inventions. He was one of the first modern thinkers. He had changed our world in every aspect and is greatly know for it. He is the reason why we have planes, parachutes, tanks, cars, crossbows, catapults, diving suits, helicopters, boats, and many more. His love for nature inspired him to make his masterpieces. As a young boy he was so curious how water worked. He would stare at water for hours wondering how it flowed and moved. He stated,"Water is the driving force of all nature". His curiosity and love for water evoked Da Vinci to make an invention that could travel through water.

Da Vinci's Webbed Invention

While Da Vinci studied water, he noticed how some animals that swim have webbed hands and feet. Da Vinci noticed how these animals could push more water away resulting in more speed. This gave Da Vinci a new idea for an invention. He decided to create a webbed glove to help people swim faster. This glove is made of five wooden needles with a membrane stretched over it. This webbed glove is a older version of scuba diving fins. They are used all over the world by scuba divers, body boarders, swimmers, and many more people.

Da Vinci's Life Guard Jacket Invention

After Da Vinci invented the webbed gloves, he decided to create a new invention that would allow humans to float in water. His invention was a leather bag that was filled with air. The air in the bag would cause the bag to be buoyant. This would allow humans to grab on and float. It was designed to keep people's heads above the water to allow them to breath. It is like a modern day lifeguard life jacket or even a beach doughnut tube.

Da Vinci's Water Ski Invention

After he invented the life guard jacket, Da Vinci decided to invent a creation that would allow humans to be able to stand and move on water. It was called the water skis. It allowed humans to explore water and move through it without swimming.
The water Skis consisted two major parts. One major part was the things under his feet. They were two leather bags filled with air to make it allow the human to float. These leather bags filled with air had the same concept to his earlier invention, the life guard jacket. It was a smaller and more compact version of the life jacket. The other major part of the water skis are the wooden poles. They allow the person to move in the direction they want by pushing water away from them. The wooden poles have a flat, circular end on one side to allow the user to push more water. The circular end was also a leather bag with air in it. This allowed the person to be even more buoyant and have more control. The water skis was the start to many sports which are everywhere around the world in the moderntimes.

Da Vinci's Boat

Da Vinci found out how to have one human be able to move around on water with the water skis. His next invention was one of the most important inventions of all time. It allowed many people to move on water comfortably and safely and it started trade all over the world. This invention opened up so many new ideas and changed the world. It was a boat with two blades on each side. The boat was mainly made of wood. The gears and the structure on the boat were made of metal to be strong and to last longer. The boat is powered by to humans who would turn metal levers. The metal knobs were connected to the wooden blades. Therefore, the blades would move water away which would make the boat move forward. Da Vinci's new invention changed the world. Boats are seen everywhere in the world today and is used for transportation, trade, fishing, and many other things. These boats allowed people to move across oceans or lakes with goods and allowed people to explore the world.

Modern Boats

There are so many types of boats in the modern society because of Da Vinci. He opened up a new world for us and created a invention that could let us explore the oceans. We explored the oceans and found new sea life and learned about the underwater life. We also used Da Vinci's invention to travel across the world and find new continents. Da Vinci's invention allowed Christopher Columbus to find America. Da Vinci's inventions changed the world with his intelligence and curiosity. Da Vinci's invention evolved into cruise ships, fishing boats, motor boats, warships, luxury yachts, steam boats, life boats, house boats, guitar boats, and many other types of boats that serve different purpose.
